2018 PMI Taiwan International Congress

Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests, and all fellow members,

Welcome to be here with us at the 2018 PMI Taiwan International Congress! The annual PTIC is the most important event for all project management professional. It not only concludes our achievement and outcome of the year, it also provides the best opportunity for all project management practitioners and experts in all fields to share and networking with each other. I want to thank our co-host, National Taipei University of Technology. With your great support, our volunteer team and the College of Management work closely to bring us the PTIC today. It has shown that project management work is indeed cross organization and area of expertise and can achieve great result.

The theme of the year is “The Outlook of Project Management – Challenges and Opportunities in the Artificial Intelligence Era”. Some of you may remember that in last year’s PTIC we concluded that only cross-field talents will survive the technology impact, and be able to master the future. This conclusion is even true to our theme this year. You should have recognized that AI is no longer in lab work but already part of our daily life. People may wonder if some of our jobs will be replaced by AI. However, the challenges ahead will bring us more opportunities because more changes and innovations mean more projects to do and more project management involved. We should concentrate more on how to get ourselves ready when the opportunities come. There will be many speeches and sharing in the coming two days, including both soft and hard skills. The topics include the best practices by the winners of the Enterprise Project Management Benchmarking Award (EPBA) and Top Ten Outstanding Project Managers (TOPM) this year, the trends and applications of AI, the Agile Practices, and the international experiences of project management. I believe that we will all have a very fruitful PTIC.

Found 1969, PMI is going to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year which is also the 20th anniversary of PMI Taiwan Chapter. We are glad to see that PMI continues to contribute in the global community and made great achievement. For example, there are already more than 300 PMI chapters around the world and close to 880,000 certified Project Management Professional globally. PMI also successfully helped the Federal Government of the United States on the bill of the Program Management Improvement Accountability Act. More importantly, the sixth edition of the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge was published last year and is by far the more influencing project management standard worldwide.

In the past 20 years, PMI Taiwan Chapter also worked hard to promote the valued of project management and play important roles with the government, industry, and academic sectors. We continued to help establishing the CNS national project management standards. We have also translated and localized the PMI global standards into Traditional Chinese. For the Enterprise Project Management Benchmarking Award (EPBA) and Top Ten Outstanding Project Managers (TOPM) awards, there are more constants than ever and the submitted cases are more and more versatile with more maturity. Congratulations to all the award winners.

All of the achievements above are attributed to the volunteers in PMI and in PMI Taiwan Chapter as well. Including the PTIC today, it is all organized, planned, and executed by a pure volunteer-based team. I felt so grateful that we have such devoted and dedicated volunteers. Lastly, I deeply appreciate all of your participation today. Being here means the greatest support to us. Thank you and wish you all the best and prosperity.
